David Yorke was born in Vancouver in 1945, into a left wing family where he inherited his political bent, and came to know many of the Mac-Pap veterans. He obtained a degree in Canadian History (SFU) in 1970, and completed legal training at UBC in 1975. He represented unions over the course of thirty years at the bar, particularly the BC Teachers' Federation for which he was counsel for two decades. In retirement he continues his interest in labour and left history, and is a director of the On To Ottawa Historical Society. He lives with his wife in Burnaby BC.
