Stranger Wycott's Place reviewed in Sunshine Coast magazine

John Schreiber's "extraordinary"" book about the Chilcotin hailed by Theresa Kishkan in Harbour Spiel"

2009.01.29 — The January 2009 issue of Harbour Spiel, a monthly magazine for the Sunshine Coast, includes Madeira Park poet and novelist Theresa Kishkan's review article about three recent books with a BC connection, including Stranger Wycott's Place, the first book by John Schreiber, published last summer as part of New Star's Transmontanus series. Her article also discusses Anik See's Saudade: The Possibilities of Place and Tim Bowling's The Book Collector.

Kishkan, whose book of essays, Red Laredo Boots, appeared in the Transmontanus series in 1996, writes: ""This is an extraordinary book in which a landscape is read like a text, alive in the voice of a writer who loves its plants and birds, the ghosts of its early inhabitants, who has taken the time to walk to Potato Mountain to look for the old summer camps of the native people who went to dig spring beauty roots on its grassy slopes, racing horses on the meadows, and who has bent to look at the print of a grizzly cub.""
