The Briss shortlisted for Best First Book in 2010 Commonwealth Writers' Prize

2010.02.18 — New Star Books congratulates Michael Tregebov on being shortlisted for Best First Book in the 2010 Commonwealth Writers' Prize (the Caribbean and Canada). Tregebov is nominated for his novel The Briss, an entertaining and poignant story about a Jewish boy who meets and falls in love with a Palestinian girl and consequently breaks his parents' hearts.

Deemed “aggressively funny and stealthily horrific” by the Globe and Mail and “outrageously funny, even as it confronts hard questions of Palestinian, Arab, Israeli and Jewish identity” by the Winnipeg Free Press, The Briss was in Globe First Fiction specialist Jim Bartley's Top 5 books for 2009.

The Briss was also reviewed nationally in the Montreal Gazette, Vancouver Review magazine and the Jewish Post & News (Winnipeg).

The winner of the Caribbean and Canada region will be announced in Grenada on March 11, 2010 and will then go on to compete against the winners from the other regions. The overall winner will be announced on April 12, 2010 in Delhi, India."
