George Bowering's The Box nominated for 2010 City of Vancouver Book Award

Winner announced October 19th

2010.09.30 — The Box, George Bowering's collection of short stories about Vancouver in the 60s has been nominated for the 2010 City of Vancouver Book Award.

Also nominated are Bruce Grenville and Scott Steedman for Visions of British Columbia (Douglas and McIntyre), Matt Hern for Common Ground in a Liquid City (AK Press) and Chris MacDonald for A Guidebook to Contemporary Architecture in Vancouver (Douglas and McIntyre).

The winner of the Award and a $2,000-prize will be announced by Mayor Gregor Robertson on October 19th at City Hall.

Bowering is Canada's first Poet Laureate, an Officer of both the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia and has received two Governor General's awards: the first, for poetry, in 1969 for The Gangs of Kosmos and Rocky Mountain Foot and the second, in 1980, for Burning Water. Caprice will be published next month. "
