Hester in Sunlight :: Vancouver Launch & Reading

|

Join us later this month in Vancouver to celebrate Hannah Calder’s “nimbly poetic” Hester in Sunlight. Hosted by one of our favourite local bookstores, Cross & Crows Books!

Hannah Calder’s latest novel is less a re-telling or transposition of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic than a re-purposing of the materials to tell a different version. Hester in Sunlight casts a different kind of light on Hawthorne’s Hester, which in turn casts reflections and shadows onto our (unnamed) narrator and the complexities of family in a stimulating riff on contemporary motherhood and parenting.

Thursday May 29
7–9pm
Cross & Crows Books

Hester in Sunlight isn’t a sequel in the vein of those novels inspired by the masterpieces of Jane Austen and the Brontës…Nimbly poetic, unapologetically pensive, and deeply idiosyncratic, it’s a Schrödinger’s novel – simultaneously certain and uncertain.”
— Brett Josef Grubisic, Reviewed in Quill & Quire
